The Friends were delighted to be able to support the Annual Conference of the West of England Retinal Surgeons, held in the Bristol Aerospace Museum.

The event’s costs were covered by these sponsors:

  • Alcon Eye Care
  • Alimera Sciences
  • Bausch + Lomb
  • Beaver-Visitec International
  • Daybreak Medical Ltd
  • DORC
  • Roche Products

The conference attracted medical eye consultants from across the West Country, as well as representatives from companies specialising in the retinal surgery equipment that’s used during complicated operations.

It gave Trustees from the Friends charity an excellent opportunity to network with leading medical figures and to spread the word about the work the charity does to assist the hospital and its staff and patients.

Doctors attending the event were particularly interested to hear more about the Friends, how we raise the money to help the hospital and hear of some of the equipment and facilities that the charity has provided that are outside of the NHS budget.

The event was organised by Dr Johannes Keller, who is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Bristol Eye Hospital, where he leads the retinal surgery team.

Johannes also specialises in the management of complex cataract cases and the repair of complicated cataract surgery.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists he holds the equivalent title in Spain and has previously held senior positions in the Sydney Eye Hospital in Australia.
