The Friends are delighted to have been able to support a significant enhancement to the surgical capabilities of the Bristol Eye Hospital’s oculoplastic surgery service by providing a new Stryker saw and drill system.
This equipment enables surgeons to carry out exceptionally precise and controlled bone work around the orbit and facial structures, which is vital when treating patients requiring orbital decompression surgery for thyroid eye disease.
These procedures rely on meticulous bone removal to relieve pressure within the orbit, protect vision, and restore comfort and function. Having the right equipment available on-site allows clinical teams to undertake this complex surgery with greater confidence and consistency.
The Stryker system is renowned for its reliability, ergonomic design, and high performance, all of which contribute to safer surgery and improved outcomes for patients.
As a result of surgeons now having immediate access to this system, it will reduce dependence on shared or borrowed equipment, minimising delays and enabling more efficient planning and delivery of surgery.
Terri Agnew, the Deputy Divisional Director for the hospital said, “We are deeply grateful to the Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital for making this possible.”
“Their ongoing commitment to supporting innovation, equipment and patient care continues to have a meaningful and lasting impact on those we treat. This contribution will benefit patients for many years to come, and we sincerely appreciate the charity’s dedication to improving the facilities and resources within our hospital.”
The total cost of this grant was £12,051.
