A-Z wine tasting: a great success!

“A very successful fundraising evening that was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came,” was how Kay McCluskey, Chair of the Friends of Bristol Eye Hospital, described the recent wine tasting event.

Held recently in the prestigious Clifton Club, the event was called an ‘A to Z of grapes – from Alfrocheiro to Zweigelt’. It was hosted by Richard Davis, of Clifton’s DBM wines, who gave a very interesting commentary about the wines and their history.

Red and white wines crafted from unusual grape varieties from as far afield as Greece, Austria and Portugal were savoured over the course of a very informative evening.

Monies were raised from ticket sales and from a raffle of prizes donated by members and supporters. There was also an auction of a rare bottle of 20-year-old, single malt Scotch whisky donated by Dr Richard Tomiak, which raised £230, thanks to some very generous bidding.

Many people bought cases of the featured wines, and DBM wines donated £5 for each case purchased as well as providing a generous raffle prize.

Kay expressed her thanks to Richard Davis, to all who came and supported the event, to those who had donated prizes for the raffle and to fellow charity trustees Jenny Ward and Gail Glew, who had helped organise the event.
